The image I have of my inner editor is of a large woman that has smoked all her life with the voice of Roz from Monster’s Inc. This woman needs booze Stat! Then maybe she will shut the hell up and let me write.
So far today I have 1 paragraph. I know, I know “At least you wrote something down”. She just keeps yapping in my ear. Drowning her out with my usual writing music is not working today. Maybe a little Slipknot is in order.
If anyone has an idea how I can get her drunk without getting myself wasted in the process, I’m all ears.
There was something wrong with my WIP. I couldn’t put my finger on it but it was ringing wrong with me. I shelved it for a couple months to come back at it with fresh eyes. I decided an entire rewrite is in order.
The whole concept I had going was just cliché as hell. I was also pantsing it. So this time I am making an outline. A rough outline but it’s an outline. I’m also keeping the same basic idea for my MC, just shoving it in a different setting. This new setting will give me more wiggle room and may lead to sequels.
As for my writer/serial killer story…it is coming along quite well. There’s no rhyme or reason to who/why she kills. Someone could cut her off on the freeway and she’d end up killing them in a month. It all centers around what makes good stories for her. A very sick woman. I’m so proud of her!
OK back to the grind. Stay tuned tomorrow for another Flash Fiction Friday piece!
It is the second day of Camp NaNoWriMo. I have 300 words to go to meet my goal for the day.
So far the story is shaping up nicely. My protagonist is crass and doesn’t care who she has to get rid of to continue her work. I left her thinking about taking out a detective if he didn’t leave her alone. He was cutting into her “hunting” time.
“As I stepped back to admire my handiwork, I slipped in a pool of blood and landed on my ass.”
Today was First Line Friday in one of the writer groups I belong to. I hadn’t figured out how I was going to write my serial killer book until that line popped into my head. She found her voice today!
It’s that time of year again. Time to sharpen my keyboard and plug in my pencil (okay maybe I’ve had too much coffee). Camp NaNoWriMo is upon us.
I have decided what I will be working on next month. I was hit in the head with this idea a few days ago. The story will be about a female writer. Her books are about murderers and she takes the “write from your experiences” mantra to heart.
I haven’t decided what POV I want to write this in. First person would be good because we could delve deep into her twisted thinking. Third person would also be good because I’m going to have her murders vary from the ones in her books so that she doesn’t get caught (that was my husband’s idea this morning). This would cause me to bring a frustrated cop of some sort into play. Although the frustrated cop could still make an appearance in first person. Oh the possibilities!
I’m excited about this one. I can feel her forming in my head and I have a feeling that when she finds her voice she’s going to yell at me to start. So I may be ahead of my word count by the time April 1st rolls around.
For those that don’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for “National Novel Writing Month” and is in November. It’s 50,000 words in 30 days. They also have Camp NaNoWriMo in April and July. These are ‘set your own word count’ goal oriented. My goal for April is 15,000 words.
